Daisy Dunlop Jewellery
Daisy Dunlop is a jeweller who works from her studio in Hayle, Cornwall. She combines intricate castings techniques with pearls, precious metals and semi precious stones to create subtle, contoured pieces of hand made designer jewellery filled with diffuse light.
She began casting plastics in New York , and finding that resin casting was not something that was specifically taught, she took numerous short courses and researched and practiced her design and technique daily. Alongside this she spent 2 years with Cartier International in Miami, returning to the UK in 2002 and, with the help of an entrepreneurial award, launching her business the following year.
Handmade cast resin pieces were her focus for the first several years, with her earlier work becoming best known for its layered collages and poetry fragments in rich colour ways. She has sold nationally through galleries and exhibitions as well as working on commissions and projects with colleges, museums and institutions.
In 2011 she began working with a plant based casting resin that, once hardened, has similar qualities to traditional resins but none of the more problematic chemicals. Equally, the concept of the work shifted as greater significance was placed on complex mould making that allowed for detailed, figurative castings which are less content laden.
Her exploration into precious metals has increased more recently, alongside a number of other techniques. 2016 saw the beginning of her undersea ranges, with gold flecked corroded looking seabed enamel work.
